30 April The move is over!Well, Joanna, Ryan and Amanda moved into their new home yesterday. I know that Jo has no cable so I want to thank everyone who helped on her behalf. It's going to take some time to get organized but at least there's no deadline as to when that's got to be done. There were a few challenges, one being a queen size box spring and a stairwell that doesn't have a high enough ceiling.... Me, I helped by taking Amanda on Saturday morning and returning her to her new home on Sunday morning. That's the kind of job I like! Then I went with Jo and Rach and cleaned the old apt before she handed in the keys. Nothing disgusts me more than people who think it's okay to leave an apartment looking like a pigsty and just leaving the supers to clean it up. I would be embarassed, even if I never saw the place or the people in it again.
Surgery is this thursday so I'm looking forward to getting that over and on to the next step in this process. At least this time it hasn't gotten rescheduled (touch wood). Anyone interested in doing something on Sunday May 14th, I know it's Mothers day but if you can swing it, Annelieke will be in town and I thought we could get together. Anyone interested, let me know. Anyway, that's about it, everyone have a great week! I'll leave you with a picture of my favourite little munchkin and her new friend. How can you not fall in love with this smile? 23 April Well, the results are in.......and the news isn't great. It appears that two out of the three nodes that they took in the first surgery came back positive for cancer so now they have to do a removal of the auxillary nodes. What that means to me is more surgery (on May 4th) after which I will have a drain that runs from my armpit to a bag on my waist for I don't know how long... after that I have 6 months of chemo to look forward to and then radiation. I think I will try to maintain a "deal with it as it comes" kind of attitude. Otherwise it seems way to depressing to try to deal with it all at once. I figure by Valentine's day next year I will be able to get back to a somewhat normal life. I think my body is developing a reaction to surgical tape or first aid tape, or whatever it is that I have to use to keep sticking gauze to my body. It makes me incredibly itchy!
But enough about that. We went to the Palasad for dinner last night for Bill's birthday and I got to see some people that I haven't seen in a long time. Then we bowled.... which was an adventure in itself as I was granny bowling so that I didn't pull at any of the stitches that they put in on Friday. But it was a fun adventure and the company was stellar as usual. Anneleike, I wish you were there though! But soon we can do something. I am definitely in for when you come down in May. If it's nice, maybe we can have a barbeque or something!
So that's about it for today, I'm off to do groceries, laundry, house cleaning etc... But it's raining or at least cloudy now so it doesn't seem so bad.. Later kids...
20 April Another week, another trip to Emerg...Okay, so it seems that I get to go and see my surgeon a week sooner than sheduled. I spent another night at emerg tonight "leaking" as I call it. I have what's called recurring seromas, which basically means that I leak. It turns out that the infection is still there and the leaking began again tonight.
Marco was a great sport and stood stoically by watching them pack the wound (he later admitted he was going for extra brownie points lol) but he didn't pass out so I guess he earned them. At least I didn't have to wait too long and I have yet to meet a nurse, resident or doctor there that I haven't liked. I guess it's all a frame of mind thing when you walk in the door. Seeing as how I have yet to feel any pain whatsoever, I'm always in a good mood when I get there. I tend to take things like this in stride and can always find humour in any situation. I'm sure they all think I belong in the psych ward lol.
So anyway, the resident surgeon insists that I see Dr. Engel tomorrow instead of next week. I hope the pathology reports are back - I don't really want to have to go back just for them.
I'm up to 7 minutes on the eliptical trainer and have started on some of the weights at work. Hopefully I will start seeing some results soon.
That's about it for now, except Does anybody have any Girlguide cookies? I know they're detremental to the workout thing but I don't care. I LOVE Girlguide cookies - especially the white ones. 18 April Okay already, I'll post...Well, checking through the blogs, I see that Nicole has almost the most
recent post amongst us! And, seeing as how there have been a few
comments sent my way regarding my lack of a new post, I'll do one.... I finally started watching the amazing race 2 weeks ago and the couple that I liked so much (the one where the girl looks like KP) ended up off the show. That was not good. I did like it however that Lake and Michelle ended up off this week. I still maintain that there is nothing like a good stressful situation to bring out all the bad manners and boorish behaviour. I think I like the hippies/hillbillys. I usually like the people who seem to enjoy the ride the most. Healthwise, all is good I guess and with the exception of one infection incident (Rachel told me I'm not allowed to write about green goo so I won't go into any gory details) the incisions seem to be healing. I go next Friday for a follow-up and hopefully to get the results of the pathology report. Funny, I always associate Pathology reports with autopsies. So the question of the week: Is khaki a colour or a style of pants? It's a subject for great debate between Joanna's, Rachel's and our house. You realize just how stupid the conversation is in relation to the number of times you say the word Khaki. Too many times = too stupid to continue the debate. lol Oh, the best part. The gym equipment is now in where I work. I planned on putting in 30 minutes on the eliptical trainer after work tonight.... lol after 5 minutes I realized just how out of shape I am and why Rachel has renamed it "the machine of death". If it doesn't kill you, you will at least wish you were dead. Other than that, not much else is new. Later kids.... 07 April Thank you...To everyone who sent good thoughts and wishes my way, thank you. The surgery went well. At least I think it did, I never did see my doctor again after I was put out but I woke to no drainage tubes taped to my underarm which was a possibility. They took the tumour and at least one of the lymph nodes but I won't know any more til my follow up on the 30th of April. For now, I would just like to have full use of my right arm back. I can't put it down to my side without any pain yet but I'm not sure if that's due to the incision, or the fact that there's a big-ass piece of tape and gauze stuck there and it pulls every time I try. I can't take the tape off til tomorrow, so I guess I'll figure out the source of the pain then. I am definitely lopsided now where the chest is concerned, but Rachel tells me that LaSenza carries a bra with gel liners that are removable so you just put them both in the same side and it gives you the required "boost" to make you look normal again so I think I'll be visiting LaSenza in the near future.. I wonder if they sell just the gel inserts; you could always get a couple spare to have on hand when a little cleavage is necessary.. lol - always an angle... It seems to me that in the movie Le Divorce, Kate Hudson takes something like that out of her top when the guy she's dating is in the kitchen...
Marco is trying his best to take care of someone who's used to taking care of herself :). Joanna, Rachel and Amanda spent yesterday afternoon with me so I wouldn't be too bored. Tony, Marco's mom and his sister have called to check up on me. Not that having people care enough to check is an imposition, but I'm glad I'm going back to work Monday, it would make me crazy to sit here all day and do nothing, I probably could have went back today, but promised everyone that I would take the two days to recover.
Anyway, now I have to wait for the pathology reports to come back to find out if I need both radiation and chemo or just the radiation. Until then, I am just going to enjoy the spring weather (well not today although rain is spring too, lol) and my Tylenol 3s and getting my right arm back into mini golfing condition.
Later kids... 02 April oops, forgot my new favourite picsThese and others are on Joanna's Flickr site, but these are two of my favourites... new song....Little darlin' I feel the ice is slowly meltin'
Little darlin' it seems like years since it's been clear Here comes the sun, here comes the sun And I say it's all right I don't care that it's supposed to snow on Tuesday, right now, the sun is shining and it feels like spring is finally here. I still want to go indoor mini golfing, but it will soon be time to go outdoors. I can't wait.
Went out Friday night with friends from work as a kind of last hurrah before the routine of modern medicine kicks in and we had so much fun. My new drink of choice is a Caesar because they're spicy enough that I drink them slow which translates into no hangover in the morning. Marco met us after work and hung out for a bit. It was mardi gras night at the Last Drop but there was an obvious lack of beads going around. I know you have to earn them, but when the guys want to keep them so they can win the prize for most beads, earning is basically impossible... lol.
Rachel has had to change her plans, for the next school year anyway. It seems that Fanshawe only accepts 30 people out of the thousand plus that appy for their radiation technology program. Wouldn't you think that a province who is crying due to the lack of health care professionals would train more than 30 a year? Especially considering that 15 of those 30 either never finish the degree or if they do, they move to the States for more money? Go figure... So anyway, she is going for insurance underwriting this year and will reassess at the beginning of next. Our neighbour from Belmont did the underwriting thing and she makes pretty good money so as long as the course has a job at the end of it, all is good I guess.
Joanna and Ryan are still looking at townhouses, they have one to look at today that is reasonably close to White Oaks mall so that would be nice if she was within walking distance from me. We'll see. We still have to paint the old apartment back to white.. I've always painted before I move any furniture in so doing it with all the furniture is definitely a challenge.
Marco's cupboards are almost done - they were an off white with wood trim, I'm sure you've all seen the style. I changed them to a coffee brown and am just working to sand down the handles and then give them a fresh coat of varnish. Then there's just the flourescent light fixture to replace (yech - flourescent lights) and a couple of pictures for the wall. I've been toying with the idea of a ceramic tile backsplash behind the sink and pot lights under the top cupboards to put light on the countertop without using the overhead lights but not sure of the space issue... oh well, time will tell...
Anneleike, I keep checking... How's Taco?
Anyway, that's about it for now. Later Kids. |
